Hello and welcome to our candlelight reception inside of a cave!

That's the inside of the cave which was much darker and mystical looking, although this sort of ambiance is hard to capture with a camera flash. Imagine it though....Imagine.

Painting reminds me a whole lot of baking, except it is less delicious. (I've gotten lots of paint in my mouth before and it tastes like lead...)
With the Rolling Stones blaring in the background, I stir up a big bowl of magical ingredients that I drop in huge globs onto the canvas (or baking sheet). Sometimes I'm dancing while I do it, and I'm always giggling in delight.

And then I gaze lovingly at the canvas as it dries for hours at a time.

It beats the crap out of reality TV, and in this creative frenzy lies the meaning to my life.

The Cupcake

A friend of mine once declared that “cake is mankind’s greatest achievement.” Cake that comes in neatly packaged individual serving sizes is such an exciting concept that I’ve made a print of one we can all hang on our walls!

Side thought: Why eat a muffin when you could have a cupcake?

Side thought to side thought: What is the difference between a cupcake and a muffin? The presence of icing? I say we bring icing back to breakfast. And lunch. Peanut butter and icing sandwiches. Don't let me babysit your kids.

Dream Date Milkshake

I’ve always been a fan of those old fashioned dates where the couple sips on a single milkshake with two straws while gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes. These days that is more likely to happen over an electric blue colored pitcher full of vodka and exotic sweet liquor, but I won’t stop believing.

Dripping Peace

When I first made this drawing, I had not yet included the little houses at the bottom. My mom (yeah I show my prints to my mom, so what?) remarked that it looked like “Peace was melting and coming apart” which is exactly the opposite of the message I was trying to convey. I drew little homes underneath it then so that the Peace would be raining down it’s beautiful essence upon humanity. I like Peace so much!

Little Charlie Bird

This little bird is named “Charlie”, and he started off with your average regular bird tail. A friend of mine decided that regular bird tails were too boring for this picture, so Charlie got a curly orange tail to set him apart from the boring birds of the world. He is now a magnificent, extraordinary sparrow.

I started off drawing a portrait of these lumpy little owls with no romance in mind, but as the drawing took shape, it soon became clear that these two little baby owls were deeply in love with each other. I drew a heart in the middle to make sure this would be evident to everyone else.

Harvest Corn

From what I learned in middle school, I know that corn was the crop that sustained the Native Americans. Corn represents the abundance and generosity of the earth as it gives freely to sustain us, and may we all receive bountiful harvests with much peace and prosperity!

(It’s getting close to Thanksgiving so I am practicing for what I will say at the dinnertime toast.)

The Ice Cream Masterpiece

This painting began as a simple, modest ice cream cone floating in a colorful, glittery dream space, although it soon became clear that one scoop was not going to be enough.

And so I painted another one on top, and there were two.

A week later, I decided that I should “go big or go home”, and painted two more scoops on top!

I would have painted seven more scoops, but I ran out of canvas space at the top, so the painting was finished.

Little Bird, my best friend in the whole world

I jumped out of bed one morning in early October with a strong urge to draw and paint a “little bird”. I’m not sure where this urge came from, but I followed up on it, and now this little bird is one of my most favorite drawings I have ever made. He seems to glow with life to me, and if I was ever stuck alone on a deserted island with no one else to talk to, he would be my best friend in the whole world.

Last spring, I was living and painting in Barcelona, Spain. While in Spain, I found myself suddenly appreciating the beauty and comforts of my home back in the U.S. With these sentiments floating around in my head, I had a dream one night in Spain that I had painted an abstract background with an outline of the United States on top. It was such a strange and vivid dream that I did in fact do just that when I woke up, and this painting is the result.

While in London, my boyfriend’s cousin drove us around in his car playing an old jazz song with the chorus line. “Banana Split for my baby, glass of plain water for me”. Somehow the lyric stuck with us and to this day, we sing to each other “Banana Split for my baby...”.

The Jellyfish

After I lay down the backgrounds of the paintings, I try to work with the shapes that have formed naturally in the paint. This one formed a large ring that happened to remind me of a jellyfish, so that is exactly what I painted.

Big Watery Festival of Beautiful Color

This painting was made using a technique based upon the research of Japanese scientist Dr. Masaru Emoto. Dr. Emoto’s work with freezing and photographing water crystals has proven that human intentions have the ability to shape and influence the physical characteristics of water molecules. Before the painting begins, I charge jugs of water with love and positive energy by playing joyful music by artists such as the Beatles and Devendra Banhart. Once the water has been charged with love and positivity, it is then mixed with a variety of paints and inks and gently poured into large pools and rivers on a large stretch of canvas. The work is left to dry over a several day period with messages of peace, love and gratitude taped onto the sides. The end result is a vibrant, blissful painting that has participated in its own making!

What came after the Virgin Mary

This painting was originally to be a golden portrait of the glowing Virgin Mary as a tribute to the Orthodox Greek religion everyone follows on the island of Cyprus where I painted it. However, once I finished, I decided it was entirely out of place with the rest of the paintings in the collection and painted the entire canvas white to start all over again.

Having already "failed" once, I decided to let myself go on the second try and had a ball creating this abstract expressionist piece. It was much more fun to paint than a portrait of the Virgin Mary, and an actual 5 year old child visiting our exhibition space stuck her hands in to help me make it!!!

Salmon Season

This is one of my most favorite paintings I've made. It's actually painted on a large sheet of glass, and I went back in with an etching tool to scrape away the paint to form the figure of the bear. He's got his knees bent and his head tilted back in complete bliss as he contemplates salmon season. Bears really like salmon.

the animals waking up to another

day, hopeful.

the animals dont think about

the yesterday. they never hold

a grudge.not because
